HEAVY METAL REMOVAL

WASTE MANAGEMENT IN ELECTROPLATING INDUSTRY

  • The main concern in Electroplating Industry is to control toxic material discharged by it and it is included among 17 major polluting industries in India by Central Pollution Control Board, Government of India.

  • Electroplating is considered a major polluting industry because it discharges toxic materials and heavy metals through wastewater (effluents), air emissions and solid wastes in environment.

CHEMICAL BATH RECOVERY & RECYCLING

  • Metals used for plating are costly metals having superior qualities like nickel, cadmium, platinum, gold, silver, chromium etc. it has been noted that out from the total amount of these metals utilized in electroplating, 4% goes as waste in sludge spent wash, electroplating solutions etc.

  • The pollutants through the electroplating industries are invariably hazardous, as the effluents contaminate air, water and soil. Some of the polluting agents have deleterious effect on human health, examples being cadmium, lead, and nickel etc.

  • The environmental load in electroplating industry mainly comes with process waste water, hydroxide sludge and sulphuric acid. The untreated rinsing water has plenty of waste.
